MEAT-FREE MOMENTS
My family and I have been on a little meat-free adventure since the turn of the new year. Let's just say Christmas was a little too indulgent and actually, we decided to create some healthy food habits that I'm pleased to say we're still honouring today...four months into the year. Whilst we've been on this journey, we've literally tried every meat-free or plant-based alternative out there. Here are some of our top picks to help you make some choices the next time you're out walking your supermarket aisles looking for something new to try.
BURGERS
I challenge you to find a better tasting plant-based pattie
I've tried nearly every meat free pattie out there and this is hands down the BEST. It smells great, looks authentic and has a sublime taste. We have ours with a brioche bun, homemade onion relish, lettuce and the vital ingredient, Red Leicester cheese! Make it this way and you'll have an Honest Burger rival on your hands I assure you.
BAO BUNS
'Pulled pork' bao buns without the guilt but all the flavour
I picked these up randomly from the supermarket once as they were on offer, but they are seriously impressive. Warning, you don't get many in the box, but it comes with a lovely vegan Korean mayo accompaniment and the 'pulled pork' itself is tasty. My kids loved this which is usually the acid taste for meat free options!
SAUSAGES
An absolute must-have, not had a pork sausage since
We've been on a journey to find the best meat-free sausage out there; I am sure I've tried every brand. Some have been too dry, some too herby, some with a weird texture. Not these bad boys from Richmond! They are so authentic, perfect consistency and flavour and they cook just like a regular sausage. I haven't eaten a pork sausage since.
FRIED CHICKEN
Super versatile and mega tasty, minus the grease
I always have a packet of these southern fried bites in my freezer for a quick family lunch. Pop them into a soft tortilla wrap loaded with lettuce, sauces and a sprinkle of cheese to create the tastiest wrap out there. All the flavour, none of the guilt and another kid pleaser. Give it a go, makes a change from sandwiches...
